On the Beach at Night
A cappella
Publisher Desc.
Richard Crosby's atmospheric, romantic setting of Walt Whitman's "On the Beach at Night" aptly captures Whitman's pantheism. It depicts a young child watching the sky in amazement as her father gently reminds her that, even though the stars disappear behind the clouds, they will reappear. Further, he tells her, "Something there is more immortal even than the stars," leaving the reader with a profound sense of awe. This work was written for a competition sponsored by Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia in 2015 and was premiered by the brothers at Central Michigan University.
