This delightful arrangement of 'We wish you a Merry Christmas' comes from the pen of Scottish composer and arranger Kenneth Downie. He writes: The origins of this jolly carol lie in the West Country of England, which has been my home for the last 12 years. Carollers singing this song make the wish that their hearers will have a merry Christmas and a happy new year, but then go on to request some figgy pudding' - and if they don't receive the aforementioned pudding, they threaten to keep on singing indefinitely. Having experienced at first hand the dubious quality of some carol singers, this threat should be taken seriously! Quite obviously, a carol of this profound nature calls for a matching musical approach in performance. It should be played with a smile, and hopefully leave a smile on the face of the listeners.'
