Although the title says otherwise, Water Dance is a lyrical piece for English Horn and Piano which is heavily inspired by the piece by the dedicatee called Lily Relay, a Poem in 2 Movements.
The Water Dance is portrayed as a lyrical dance that, if accompanied by a dance, the movements would be slow, lyrical, and tender. The piece would invoke a ballerina, or any other type of dancer dancing skillfully and gracefully alongside a stream, river, or even an ocean, imitating the water's even-flowing motion.
The peaceful, yet somber tones of the English Horn invoke the atmosphere of the location of the dance, being calm, serene and peaceful, in an almost dream-like state, thus relaxing the listener into a world of their own. The main goal of this piece is to be meditative and thoughtful to the listener, using the timbre of the English Horn and Piano to illustrate this. This piece is the second of two pieces dedicated to Luxembourgish Oboist and Composer Felix Turrion Eichler.
