The Weaver's Tale is a folksong ballad, written paying homage not only to my dearly departed friend, but also to Percy Grainger, who to this day, still has a huge influence on me as a composer. In 2006, a very dear friend and mentor passed away. Gary Weaver was a guiding light in my early years of teaching and just days before he died, I felt compelled to give him a call and check in. I'm glad that I did. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to talk to him, one last time, and to say Goodbye. At that time, I had had the A section of a folk type melody rolling around in my head as it had for several weeks. After hearing of his passing, it only took a few days to complete this piece. I did not have the intention of writing a piece for anyone, but it was Gary's influence and passing that propelled me to complete my first band work, The Weaver's Tale.
The Weaver's Tale features Oboe, but has optional solo parts for Clarinet, Alto Sax or Soprano Sax.
