This arrangement of Summertime was recorded in 1949 for the first "Charlie Parker with Strings" recording session. This chart, arranged by Jimmy Carroll, features solo alto saxophone along with 3 violins, viola, cello, harp, guitar, piano/celeste, bass, and drums. There is no oboe part in this arrangement. In addition, the piano doubles on celeste and the drums double on vibraphone. The vibe part was not played as Buddy Rich (who was the drummer on this recording session) didn't play the instrument and couldn't read music. It is an optional part that appears in only the last measure of the arrangement. String bowings and harp pedaling have been indicated.
