Suite from Hymn of the Highlands

Scottish folk music is set here on a grand scale, in this three-movement work that stems from the proud musical tradition of the European brass bands.  Characteristic sounds of the Scottish "snap" rhythm, imitation of bagpipes and a general folk-like character give this an instantly identifiable Scottish flavor.  Careful orchestration keeps the music vibrant and interesting.  The entire suite is approximately 17 minutes in length, but movements can also be performed independently.  The final movement in particularly strong and powerful, with the sound of field drums and bold brass lines contributing to the martial feel.  Outstanding!
