First recorded by Benny Goodman in 1937, Sugar Foot Stomp is a hard-driving, up-tempo swing chart that features solos from clarinet (alto sax 2) and trumpet. The chart has been augmented up to full 5,4,4,4 instrumentation, and the clarinet solo can be played as written or improvised from the chords, although the trumpet solo is to be played as written. The reeds require both altos and tenors to double clarinet, with baritone doubling alto. Due to the tempo of the chart, nimble fingers and tight sectional work are demanded from all players.
