Sub Zero is a bright jazz shuffle in the style of New York's legendary Vanguard Jazz Orchestra. The title reflects the composer's memories of his first visit to hear the band at the Village Vanguard in New York City during the depths of winter. After a quick a cappella trombone section introduction, it quickly settles into a tight and fun shuffle featuring piano and rhythm section. The full ensemble has its say before improvised solos for trombone, trumpet in plunger, and bass. Things really start to cook during the trumpet solo, then the bassist brings the intensity down a notch followed by the band roaring back in. Don't miss the very cool trombone section break before the band brings it to a finale. Highly recommended!
