Franco Prinsloo composed this gentle sounding setting of sonnet 27 ("Weary with toil, I haste me to my bed") on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of William Shakespeare's death. Imitating the bourdon sound of the bagpipe, the folk-like melody of this melancholy love song is accompanied by the sustained tones in the choral parts. Initially yearning, in the meantime mysterious, the composition intensifies to a brilliant fortissimo to ultimately disappear into nothingness.
