Faure originally wrote his captivating Sicilienne for a production which unfortunately went bankrupt before ever the music was performed. Thankfully, he later arranged the orchestral setting as a solo for cello and piano, and concurrently, thought to include it in the incidental music for a play,"Pelleas at Melisande." The Sicilienne has seen arrangements for everything from panpipes to tuba over the years, and Thorne here crafts excellent arrangements for instrumental quartets, effectively translating the usual piano or harp accompaniment to the wind instruments.
