Shades

Shades contrasts the light and dark of our world. Each movement contains both dark and light elements. The show begins with a light percussion groove that leads to the opening impact. Darkness is portrayed through most of the movement with a few hints of light sporadically. The second movement depicts light with small group featuring leading to the impact. After the impact the darkness theme begins to take over very slowly while transitioning to the percussion feature. The percussion feature has a driving beat that will give the rest of your ensemble a chance to show off their drill or visuals while leaving your percussionists with an exciting feature. Shades concludes with a final movement with a driving tempo that will slowly add instruments and complexities to the final impact: a bright chorale that with some inversions and a much slower tempo could be recognized as the ballad chorale, running mallet work with one last darkness theme, and metered ritardando to the finish. This ending will push your performers to work hard and leave them out of breath like any great marching show should do!
