Cherubini's Requiem Misa pro defunctis (Mass for the Dead) was premiered in 1817 in Saint-Denis. This dramatic and compelling work is in Latin, separated into seven movements and interestingly composed for SATB chorus, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, two horns, two trumpets, three trombones, timpani, gong, and strings. Noticeably missing are vocal soloists and flutes. This new edition is clean and contains an excellent forward in English and German.
