This full six-verse text of the Eucharistic hymn Verbum supernum prodiens was one of five written or edited by St. Thomas Aquinas at the request of Pope Urban IV when the feast of Corpus Christi was instituted in 1264. It served as the hymn for Morning Prayer (Lauds). These final two verses are better known as a hymn for the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. This compelling setting for two voices by César Franck, edited by Dr. William Tortolano, is largely homophonic and rich in harmonic color. This edition is a worthwhile choice for the more skilled ensemble.
