This ninth variation from Elgar's "Enigma Variations" is the most played and most beautiful of the variations. Due to its overwhelming expressive quality, it has become England's counterpart to Adagio for Strings, being played when music of great emotion and dignity is called for in that country. This fine arrangement moves the key center from Eb to the more string-friendly D. With some very nice divisi writing, this makes an ideal choice for any string orchestra, and especially nice for larger or combined string orchestras.
