Lineball is a straight-ahead rocker with a brief introduction followed by a tuneful melody at the top featuring the saxes and then the trumpets. There's a half-time feel in the bridge, then a full band interlude leading to a section for suggested or improvised solos. The solo section is followed by another ensemble interlude which is followed by a drum solo with band hits. The articulations are well-notated to guide players through the phrases and an optional right-hand piano stave is included in the event there is no bass player, plus it's playable with optional reduced or expanded instrumentations.
