"Les Fauves" for Wind Quintet is inspired by the art form called Fauvism that emerged in France at the beginning of the 20th century. French for "the wild beasts," a group of modern artists created works that emphasized painterly qualities and intense color over the representational or realistic values retained by Impressionism. This piece is mainly inspired by Andre Derain's "Mountains at Collioure, 1905. He was a French artist, painter, sculptor, and co-founder of Fauvism. The winds enrapture a surreal version with signicant variance in harmonic language and rhythmic variance, demonstrating the long strokes of colors such as bright green, blue, mauve, and pink as the entire scene is under a jade and turquoise sky.
