This gently rocking sea shanty was generally reserved for the end of a long voyage when the sailors would be leaving the ship. The "her" in the song refers to the ship, and the lyrics express the hardships of the voyage. This lyrical arrangement is ideal for beginning tenor-bass choirs. The musical setting is often in two parts but expands occasionally to three parts in this easily learned version.
