Keyboard Musicianship provides the materials necessary to develop well-rounded musicianship in adult pianists in group instruction. It allows the student to read well, play in many keys, harmonize folk and popular melodies, play by ear, improvise, compose, and notate music with skill. The eight chapters and appendices of Book One reflect a typical first year college piano curriculum for music majors who are not pianists. Most often the first four chapters are covered in the first semester and the second four in the second semester. The book is organized in a sequential manner, enabling understanding and skills to unfold in a logical way. As new musical elements are introduced, they are reinforced by a variety of keyboard activities. Evaluation of progress is assisted with suggested quiz topics that appear at the end of each chapter. The eight chapters and appendices of Book 2 provide more than ample work for the second year of college group study. It starts with a review of harmony and structures encountered in earlier study and moves quickly to new elements. Both books include a play along CD containing both audio tracks and embedded Standard MIDI Files.
