Footsteps in the Snow

This small, quiet piece paints, in Debussy's words, "a sad, frozen landscape." A slow-moving four note ostinato suggests footsteps moving through a bleak wintry world. A feeling of hopeless resignation pervades the entire composition, which was written during the winter months of 1910.
