Flight of the Foo Birds

Neal Hefti penned this wonderful chart for the great Count Basie Band, and Roy Phillippe has made it accessible for younger players without losing the verve of the original.  This little swing chart begins by featuring a combo and layers other sections on until there's a full band laying down the melody and backgrounds.  Written or improvised solos are traded with alto sax and trumpet following by a soft shout chorus.  It will also sound full and complete with optional reduced instrumentation.  Additionally, there are options for expanded instrumentation.  Highly recommended!
