Entry March of the Boyars is originally an orchestral work by Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen. In 1893 Halvorsen was offered a post at the Bucharest Conservatory of Music in Romania and read with interest about the history of the area. This is how he became acquainted with Boyars the 18th century aristocracy of Eastern Europe. He declined the position but his fascination with the Boyars compelled him to write music describing their entry into Bucharest. The music was first used as stage music at the Bergen Theatre in Norway where Halvorsen worked as the Director of Music in 1895. Two years later he published an arrangement of the piece for symphony orchestra; and in 1911 the original band transcription was written by L. P. Laurendeau of Montreal Canada.
