Deer Song

From Craig Hella Johnson's important work, this movement for treble chorus with three soprano soloists was inspired by a deer that had been lying by the fence near Matthew when he was found, near death: "All night I lay there beside you, I cradled your pain in my care." Johnson's stirring text suggests that even in our moments when we feel most alone, somehow we are not all alone - nature itself sees us and cares for us.
