This medium level ensemble is scored for fairly standard western percussion instruments commonly found in the average high school's percussion inventory. Each player has a pitched instrument and four non pitched surfaces. The instrumentation includes: bells, chimes, xylophone, two vibraphones, two marimbas (low A), four timpani, two bongos, two congas, four log drums, four cowbells, four brake drums, temple blocks, four concert toms, three double headed toms, concert bass drum and four cymbals (splash, china, sizzle, 18" suspended). Though this piece is not intentionally programmatic, the title does imply somewhat of an unusual direction to the overall rhythmic structure of the music. Walking implies forward motion that is constantly leaning and falling forward into the next phrase. The tempo markings further help with a walking reference along with the metronomic marking. A creative composition good for any high school program.
This piece comes as a professionally printed and bound score and includes individual parts in PDF format for printing or for tablet viewing.
