Chinese Fire Drill

This composition attempts to portray the zany, whimsical, and chaotic nature of a “Chinese fire drill” (Yes, the thing where people jump out of a car at a red light and run around the car). To capture the adrenaline and excitement of the event, this work incorporates unusual extended techniques, a few unusual instruments, and even some slightly theatrical elements. A lighthearted humor pervades this work commissioned by the Colorado Mesa University Wind Symphony, Calvin Hofer, conductor.
