Anybody Home? is a theatrical orchestral piece that adds a speaker to the mix. It acts out a scenario of that childhood experience of knocking on the door of a strange house and feeling uncomfortable waiting for a response. It ends with a twist that is sure to surprise the audience. Musically, it explores dissonance in a not too complicated way. The violins go briefly into 3rd position. The rest of the piece is in 1st position. There is a chromatic passage in the violas, later picked up by the cellos, some chromatics in the bass, and syncopated rhythms in all parts at various times. The most important thing is to bring out the strange emotions that the music conjures up.
