This arrangement, featuring Antonio Carlos Jobim on Portuguese vocals, was crafted by Claus Ogerman and is one of many Jobim and Ogerman collaborations. This brilliant arrangement perfectly frames Jobim's stream of consciousness song. Ogerman's instrumentation features four various types of flutes (piccolo, C flute, alto flute and bass flute) along with violins, celli, guitar, piano, bass, and drums. Ogerman specified 12 violins and 5 celli and provided exact divisi instructions which are included. In addition, all flutes are on bass flute for four measures only. These have been retained, but alternate alto flute parts are included in the event bass flutes are not available. Both the original Portuguese lyrics as well as the English lyrics are included for the vocalist. It should be noted that when Jobim wrote the English lyrics he modified the melody in places. Both melodies (in separate staves) are included for vocal options. Instrumentation: Woodwind 1: Piccolo/Bass Flute (Alto Flute Alternate Part)/C Flute; Woodwind 2: Piccolo/Bass Flute (Alto Flute Alternate Part)/C Flute/Alto Flute; Woodwind 3: Bass Flute (Alto Flute Alternate Part)/C Flute/Alto Flute; Woodwind 4: Bass Flute (Alto Flute Alternate Part)/Alto Flute; Violin 1; Violin 2; Celli; Guitar (Nylon Strings); Piano; Bass; Drums.
