A Lenten Meditation

This stunning piece incorporates two striking hymns of the Easter season: Jesus, Refuge of the Weary and the beloved When I Survey the Wondrous Cross, featured alone in an a cappella section. The beautifully written piano accompaniment almost stands alone, yet skillfully intertwines with the haunting choral harmonies. With effective use of minor and major tonalities, the anthem succinctly captures the mood of the text, while the beautifully written vocal parts are easily sung. This selection is one of comfort, reflection, meditation and call to repentance. Very highly recommended!
