World Without End
Publisher Desc.
This modern setting takes as inspiration the earliest roots of the Te Deum: the chant itself. Though chant has been quoted often in historical settings, here it is kept as a primary and inescapable base upon which all the orchestral motives are built and developed. Because this text took a new lingual turn on the Latin source, the music in this setting follows the idea in how the voices interact with the orchestra. The chorus sings in a more freely composed, modern style that contrasts with the orchestra's sometimes medieval nature. In this way the new is set against the old in a light that shows the virtues of each, and spans the thousand-year-old history of this storied text.
