The piece begins in three as does most pieces associated with scherzo but the piece essentially resets halfway through and three becomes intertwined with four to really emphasize the joke which scherzo actually derives from. Time and harmony move in unexpected ways and will keep the performers and listeners intrigued throughout the entire piece.
