Requiem Sinfonica - Pie Jesu
Publisher Desc.
The Pie Jesu is written for two solo clarinets, two flutes, one oboe, one bassoon, two French horns, two harps, and strings. Pie Jesu in the mass is where the soul is requesting an opportunity to rest.
It opens with quiet murmurs by the strings and harp. There is no thematic material that is central in this movement. It's more like a collection of thoughts presented by each section in the orchestra with the clarinets pleading for eternal rest. However, there is a round that connects the two ideas of the movement together played by the accompanying ensemble. This leads into the clarinet duo heard in the Kyrie. There is one more triumphant statement played by the French horns and bassoons.
The movement ends with tremolo strings and recitative dialogue for the two solo clarinets finally letting go' and allowing themselves to begin to rest for their journey is almost at an end.
