Minuetto and Farandole from L'Arlesienne Suites 1 & 2
Publisher Desc.
Two favourite movements arranged for band from Bizet's masterpiece, originally written as theatrical incidental music, although better known in their concert suite setting. Minuetto evokes the same hazy French countryside that artist Van Gogh knew so well, whilst Farandole takes its theme from the French carol 'March of the Kings', skillfully interwoven by the composer with an increasingly frenzied Provencal-style dance. This largely unsimplified arrangement was written for a county-level youth band. Both movements can be heard or viewed in the sound and visual files. They can be performed in concert as standalone pieces or together, almost 'segue', drawing much enjoyment from audience and players alike.
