Loco Latin Top
Publisher Desc.
Loco Latin Top is an arrangement of the Hebrew folk song, the Dreydl Song, written in a Latin-Jazz style. It is a transcription of the composer's original arrangement for jazz band, with the role of the jazz band's rhythm section undertaken by the percussion section which includes Agogo bells, guiro, cabasa, timbales, and the string bass.
The piece is a programmatic work in that it depicts the gyrations of the Dreydl, starting with its wobbly start - heard in the high woodwinds, its gradual acceleration - heard in the layering of the saxophone and brass section quoting many familiar Latin themes, and the top's inevitable slowing to a stop.
