Loch Lomond

Traditional - Joshua Shoemaker

Simply yet beautifully arranged, "Loch Lomond" is now available for the intermediate choir! You can show off not only your best soloist, but also each section as well. Each section has a rich and emotional part, yet simple enough to maintain its folk-like quality and elegance.

"Loch Lomond" was conceived out of the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, the final and bloodiest war for Scottish Independence. The rebellion was unsuccessful, and many Scots were taken prisoner. Some of these Scottish prisoners were pardoned, but others were condemned to execution. It is here, in a prison cell, that this song takes place, and is the monologue of one of the prisoners. He is speaking to his friend. The one speaking has been condemned, but the friend being spoken to has been pardoned. The condemned friend reminisces about happier times, specifically his significant other, and while his spirit will reach Scotland before his friend does, the spirit will never communicate with his beloved significant other again.
