Lyrics by Paul Mendenhall
One night I had a dream that I was at a fancy New York cocktail party and
in walks my buddy baritone saxophonist Joe Temperley. I ask him what he is
doing there, and he says that he was hired to sing. This is news to me, since
to my knowledge, Joe was not a singer. At that moment, he turns to the crowd
and says, Quiet everybody. Im going to sing a song by Noel Coward. You
could hear a pin drop, at which point he mesmerizes the crowd with his
acapella performance. When I woke up, I wrote down the music that he sang and
gave it to Paul to write appropriate lyrics.
