Johann Melchior Molter - Mark Questad
Concertino in D major, MWV 8.12
Publisher Desc.
J.M. Molter was a court musician and Kapellmeister in Germany during the 18th century. The Concertinos were written for performances at the court. The combination of 2 treble instruments, 2 horns, and continuo was undoubtably popular with composer and benefactor as he composed eight pieces for similar forces.
Molter's compositional style is a mixture of German Rococo and Stile Galant. His use of horns in chamber music is compelling and forward-looking. The Concertino's texture alternates between trio sonata and concerto grosso. In this edition, figured bass is provided as well as a realized cembalo part.
