Asterisms

Asterism (noun)
1. Astronomy.
a. a group of stars.
b. a constellation.
This piece was inspired by the night sky and the endless possibilities for connecting the dots in new and fascinating ways.
The first movement contains only five notes - one per instrument - to represent the five stars that make up the initial image in the night sky. With each movement, a new star (pitch) is added and it changes the picture entirely, but we never forget the images we saw before. More dissonant notes are added before the major third (E natural) is added in the fifth and final movement. This final movement represents the grandeur and immensity of the night sky and the mingling of all of the possible images together.
