"When I composed this song, I started with the idea that the title
would be I've Got My Eye On You. I conceived of it as a Walter Donaldson sort
of thing; very 1920s but dressed up in a 1950s arrangement. When I gave it to
Paul, he tried to write lyrics to my title, but he came up empty. As usual,
he suggested something better and wrote it in no time. The undulating
chromatics sound much more nautical than anatomical. Sometimes your
collaborators can know (or feel) certain aspects (especially the large ones)
better than you do yourself. If you keep an open mind, you may be
surprised."
