Air on the G String
Publisher Desc.
"Air on the G String" is a famous movement from J. S. Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 2. In this Wind Quintet arrangement, the violin I, violin II, viola and continuo parts are wholly taken on by the flute, oboe, clarinet and bassoon respectively. As such, it is possible to play this arrangement without the horn part. What's unique about this arrangement is the additional lower voice written for the horn. The horn part serves many purposes: to add more fullness to the harmony, to support the upper voices at times, to add more sense of movement at certain part, and to enhance the melodic climaxes by using the higher register of the horn.
