Be Thou My Vision
In the first verse, each phrase of the melody in octaves alternates with a chorale-style phrase, encouraging contrast in playing style. The choral style phrases are actually harmonizations of the melody played backwards, from the end to the beginning. The second verse begins with a sudden modulation to Db, a very warm key utilizing some tasteful altered chords. The final triumphant verse ends in the bright key of D, settling into a warm, contemplative ending.
