Diana L. Appler received her early musical training at the University of Oregon, graduating in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. Over the last 30+ years she continuously used that training to further develop her love of music. Appler received her early musical training at the University of Oregon, graduating in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. Over the last 30+ years she continuously used that training to further develop her love of music. She has served more than 25 years in various US Army bands, mostly as principal clarinetist, culminating as the First Sergeant/Enlisted Bandleader of the 56th Army Band at Ft Lewis Washington. After retiring from the Army in 2005, Diana continued her education at Central Washington University where she received her Master of Music (Instrumental Conducting). Today she remains extremely active in local musical organizations conducting, performing on clarinet and arranging band compositions. She is currently the conductor of the Capital Area Concert Band of Olympia, WA. She was active with the Department of Washington American Legion Band for 12 years. Additionally she performs on clarinet with the Northwest Wind Symphony. Time at home is spent studying, arranging and self publishing transcriptions for wind instruments where her past experiences as listener, performer and conductor all come together in her arrangements.
