"Wisdom" movement VIII from "Stars forever while we sleep" explores Sara Teasdale's somewhat ironic observation that "What we have never had remains; It is the things we have that go." She makes this observation in the context of an early spring night when winter is scarcely over. The piece is mostly homophonic and uses echoic phrases. The sprightly tempo somewhat belies the iconic text.
