Turning Point
Publisher Desc.
"December 7th, 1941, a date which will live in infamy..." Those words by President Franklin D.
Roosevelt are deeply etched into the fabric of American history. Remarkably,
the comeback from that incredible disaster at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii occurred
only months later, June 4 - 7, 1942, during the Battle of Midway.
Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz described Midway as "...the most
crucial battle of the Pacific war, the engagement that made everything else
possible." Turning Point was commissioned by the United States Navy
Band, Captain Ralph M. Gambone, Jr., Conductor, in commemoration of the 60th
anniversary of the Battle of Midway. Opening and closing with a poignant
trumpet solo, Turning Point draws its musical structure from the sequence of
events of June 4 - 7, 1942, capturing the emotion, tension and triumph of
this momentous and consequential battle.
