Three Chaucer Songs
Robert Russell Bennett is perhaps best known for his work orchestrating more than 300 Broadway and London productions between 1920 and 1976, but he was also a prolific composer of concert works. This song cycle of Chaucer texts was composed in 1926 for soprano and string quartet but is presented here for soprano with piano accompaniment in a score that Bennett prepared and which has recently been edited by Janet Shlein Somers and Paul Mack Somers as part of a series devoted to bringing his unpublished works to light. The song cycle includes: 1. Captivity; 2. Rejection; 3. Escape.
