Themes to Remember
Themes To Remember teaches classical music in a user-friendly and humorous way. Children learn the names of compositions and composers by singing the author's lyrics to themes by Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, and more. When children can sing along with the best music mankind has composed, they are able to interact with the music and remember it! Volume One is a hardbound, fully illustrated, 124-page book which includes a CD with 40 themes (80 tracks) of music from 24 composers. Each theme is recorded first without lyrics, then with lyrics with "name that theme" type games. Stories of Peer Gynt, Swan Lake, William Tell, and Carmen are included. For the most complete presentation, use the activities and suggestions detailed in the Teacher's Guide. Volume Two is an extension of the first volume, with 40 additional themes and profiles of "The Nutcracker" and "The Four Seasons." Organized by musical period, the books feature a timeline of composers, simple biographical information, composer portraits, and musical notation of the themes. Use the transparencies to present the lyrics to the class more efficiently, or feature the enlarged composer portraits as an artistic and educational addition to the classroom. There's no better way to teach immediate recognition of classical music themes and their composers! Grades K-5.
