Nocturnes for Oboe, Violin, Viola, and Cello
This masterful chamber work is fanciful, tuneful, lyrical, and lively; it is meant to be fun to play and fun to listen to. The first two movements are of medium difficulty, while the last movement is quite challenging in parts. These are not Chopin-style nocturnes; rather, with movements entitled Night Falls; An Oboe Sings to the Moon and Midnight Revels of the Oboe and Its Friends, the piece tells the story of a nocturnal musical adventure for an oboe in an idyllic moonlit landscape. The first movement is stately and evocative, the second is lyrical and romantic, and the third is a zany romp which includes callbacks to the two earlier movements. Duration: approx. 10:00.
