Kyoto San

Gary Robert Buchanan - The Music Guild
Publisher Desc.  Playable by any advanced high school, college, community, or professional orchestra, "Kyoto San" for Orchestra (7 & 1/2 minutes) was composed in 2015 and entered into the Reno Pops Orchestra's annual Composers' Competition. Unanimously selected by all members of the Reno Pops organization as the winner, the score was premiered in 2016. It was extremely well-received by the Nevada audience and is now a standard in the Reno Pops library. The composer has visited Japan many times performing and lecturing. The work was composed in fulfillment of a commission from the Cosolargy Institute of Japan in Kurume. The musical theme of the work is the ancient capital city of Japan, Kyoto, and has within a sacred chant from the Kotodama, Taka Amahara. An optional setting of this song for Choir (and with translation) is included in the score, but is optional to include, as the instrumental version alone sounds quite well.
