Icarus
Publisher Desc.
Icarus tells the story the Daedalus and his son during their escape from Minos' prison tower in the classical Greek myth. It is told through the voices of a solo violin, two violin sections, a viola section, a cello section, a bass section, and a timpani. It has been performed by a 51-piece high school orchestra and by Inrush, the east coast's only all-electric youth orchestra. The score will be a challenge for young players, but will enrich violinists' pattern recognition and speed ability as well as improve the cellists' rhythm. The score is also a challenging and fun piece for large professional orchestras. Icarus consists of a large and exciting mid-body with two time signature changes, all book-ended by two tear-jerking solo violin sections. Approx. four minutes.
