Fanfare for the Mustangs
Publisher Desc.
FANFARE FOR THE MUSTANGS was written to celebrate the musical excellence of the 2018-2019 Monroe Middle School Intermediate Band. The name of the piece was chosen by the group; we had some very interesting suggestions, but in the end, they decided to name it after their school mascot, the mustangs.
The piece opens with a majestic fanfare in the trumpets, which then passes through the horns, and then to the low brass and full ensemble. In the middle of the piece, the woodwinds take center stage, introducing a contrasting, serene theme. As the grand finale approaches, the opening fanfare returns anew, intertwining with the tranquil middle theme, building to an exhilarating end. FANFARE stands as a testament to the artistry, unity, and spirit of music students at Monroe and everywhere.
Note on solos: Originally, the solo in measure 35 was written for a wildly talented young horn player who went on to win state solo just a few short years later. This solo has been extended to trumpet as well in this edition, so either a trumpet or horn player can play that solo.
Note on percussion: Depending on the number of players you have in your percussion section, it may be necessary to prioritize certain parts. My advice would be mallet percussion 1, snare, and timpani. If your program doesn't have access to timpani, the timpani part should be played on a pair of toms with timpani mallets.
