Taken from Piae Cantiones (1582), Divinum Mysterium is the name of the medieval chant melody which accompanies the hymn Of the Father's Love Begotten. Piae Cantiones is a Finnish songbook containing a mixture of sacred and secular texts. This adaptation for oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and piano takes a few liberties with both rhythm and harmony to produce some unexpected surprises for those already familiar with the hymn.
