Dido's Lament

Dido's Lament is the aria "When I am laid in earth" from the
opera Dido and Aeneas, written by the English Baroque composer Henry Purcell
(1659 - 1695). The piece is famous for its use of a ground bass (basso
ostinato) featuring a descending chromatic line. The music is slow, lyrical,
dark, beautiful and haunting.
